A set of 36 12pp course brochures featuring the sciences, engineering, mathmatics, the arts and new media. The OU realised some of the subject matter was impossible to reflect using factual illustrations and were keen to steer me down the abstract route, which is where this particular cover comes from. Other material included Prospectuses, Research Brochures, Academia Overviews and Campus Magazines.

The OU were a generous client – they really allowed me plenty of creative freedom allowing me to venture down different avenues, letting me push boundaries that little bit further...

Two designs from a series of A2 posters for a local arts exhibition centre in Surrey. With sensitive subject matters I try to tread a thin line which keeps the subject matter interesting whilst not loosing sight of the delicate nature of the content.

A set of eight food packaging labels for a range of imported fruit juices. Line art illustration with spot colour block overprints for a simple but effective design.

I get a sense of real satisfaction when I look back at these. They're certainly uncomplicated and, for me, that's the appeal. No unecessary design baggage – just the bare minimum.

One of a series of guides and reports for KCC. I wanted to step away from the usual photographic treatment for this title and provide something a little more exciting – I ended up with a very well received cover. There were numerous projects that I was involved with, from glossy brochures, posters, reports, leaflets, case studies all the way through to simple internal documentation. Digital assets for web and social media as required.

KCC were a great client. Very open to new idea and design treatments, I found them a pleasure to work with.

Working at the Surrey University was fantastic. Always lots going on and a plethora of exciting projects coming at you from every direction. Definately kept me on my toes.

A brochure providing a
nostalgic look back at Surrey University during its inception during the 70s. A great opportunity to revvist the shapes, styles, colours and typography of the era.

I really enjoy these type of projects, especially one's with such a fun element. Being the 1970s I would have called upon my hefty back catalogue of Mott the Hoople albums to put me in the mood.

A selection of various book covers depicting different subject matter. Both outer books reflect a simpler style, which is what I generally aim for. However 'Summer Tales' required a different appoach, requiring complex layers to achieve the sense of depth. I was very happy how it turned out.

I don't often get to design book covers but am always happy when one appears. I usually spend a bit more time on them than I should, but only because I enjoy the process. They're a bit like posters in that I find them relaxing and good for the soul. Mine are mostly smaller publishers though I have had one or two on the shelves of Waterstones...

Design of a 48pp product brochure for Piaggio Scooters (Vespa), covering entire model range, accessories, optional extras, clothing and 'Vespa Life' owners club. Content comprised photography, line art, illustrations and copy. Art directed all photography, including cover shot.

This was loads of fun to work on – it really didn't feel like you were actually working! I love the product and I love the vibe that goes with it. A really great experience.

Designs for a consumer media advert, 6pp roll-fold leaflet and Father's Day vouchers. 'Woodcut' style illustration, spot colour and textured white stock provide a premium feel and help reflect the history and longevity of Laphroaig Distillery.

I really love the look of a woodcut illustration and new that it would provide exactly the right feeling for the client. They were good enough to send me a case of their finest as a thankyou.

A brochure for a luxury development in Trent Park, North London, presented in a heavy-duty outer sleeve. Full use of special cards, metallic inks, foil blocking, lamination, die-cuts, spot UV and simulator paper.

This was an interesting project. There was a timeline running through the entire brochure that highlighted interesting dates in Trent Park's history, from 1830 to the modern day. Little facts were dotted around the brochure with period illustrations and photographs. It was one of those jobs were you spend more time reading it than actually finishing it...

Design and populate a 440 page catalogue, with line art drawing, illustrations, photography and copy. The striking cover image helps lift what could be a mundane product.

It would probably be pushing the bounds of honesty to say this is my favourite type of project, and yet I find something wierdly relaxing about putting it all together. Mind you, I only got to the end thanks to the Rolling Stones played at concert volume.

Packaging design for a range of nine luxury chocolate bars to be sold through high-end independent retailers. Simple illustration for each flavour, matt coloured foil wrappers with spot UV gloss varnish.

Chocolate. Who doesn't like chocolate? It's a real treat to work with something so unashamedly wicked. I loved the end result here – simplistic yet luxurious.

A selection of freelance work, these reflect the different styles and treatments used on various projects through the years, including web content and social media campaigns, brochures, reports, internal documentation, exhibition material, posters, leaflets flyers, digital content for web and social media etc.

Like most public bodies (in my experience) there is always plenty to get your teeth into. No two days are the same and that makes for a really interesting working environment. And I'm a big fan of offices that are a hub-bub of activity – I find it provides positive surroundings to work in.

A 36pp visitor information brochure recounting the Battle of Britain and using extensive photography and period illustrations. Additional photography of airworthy Supermarine Spitfires taken at IWM Duxford. To work alongside a suite of printed assets.

Okay. So this one ticks all my boxes. And quite a few others. I love putting together a nice brochure – type and layouts are definately my first love and perhaps give me more satisfaction than anything else. Populate that brochure with military aircraft from any part of the aviation timeline and I'm truly a pig in, well, you know what. Really, this wasn't work.

Loved working on these. Spending a day at the museum gathering facts was a day very well spent.

Two or three days spent sifting through new and period shots of aircraft from the Battle of Britain. Oh joy.

From a set of six, A2 posters promoting the annual Hebden Bridge Arts Festival in West Yorkshire. Abstract design reflected the rich heritage of a number of local stately-home award-winning gardens.

2022 Annual Report & Accounts – one of a myriad of projects produced for the NHS during last year. Other projects included Quality Reports, Equality Reports, Information Posters, Infographics. Pull-up Displays, Health & Safety Manuals, Wall-mounted Story Boards, Patient Leaflets, Internal Communication Documents, Healthcare Alliance Brochures, digital assets for web and social media etc.

I had a really great experience during my time in the Communication & Engagement Team. I was lucky enough to work with ten very smart, very competent, very funny and supportive ladies. It was a real pleasure and I miss them all.

Two examples of a number of property brochures designed for Berkley Homes. All very much at the 'luxury' end of the scale, the brochures were presented with an outer dust jacket and employed metallic inks, die-cuts, textured print stock, laminations, spot UV ink and foil blocking. Art direction of all photography.

I've done a number of these brochures and they're always a satisfying project to see printed. It's nice to have the opportunity to use special print stocks and unusual print finishes.

Branding for a designer clothing boutique based in NI. The use of bold contrasting colours and simple geometric graphics created a highly recognizable style.

A friend owns a funky retro boutique outlet in Northern Ireland so I wanted something that would capture that feeling. It's not exactly the 60s, but it is a little bit. I think the end result was pretty pleasing and created the groove she was after.

A 32pp brochure containing public shows, events, 'Planetarium for schools' classes, activities, recommended equipment and other astronomical news for both individuals and groups.

This is an interesting brochure to put together. I must confess I find the subject matter quite riveting Iand I'm not being sarcastic). Lots of pictures of the night sky taken through the eye of the Hubble Telescope which look truly incredible and other-worldly. I always feel quite small once I've put this project to bed.

A selection of monthly postcard mailers for various media events throughout London and the South West.

Fun little jobs. I did a ton of these and really enjoyed them. In and out really quickly so could easily fit them between bigger projects.
